Insurance pays for childbirth education?

Sometimes! Childbirth education is covered by some insurance plans or reimbursed through HSA/FSA accounts. You can take take three simple steps to find out if you can get your childbirth ed course covered.

  1. Call your insurance company or HSA/FSA plan administrator to find out what your childbirth education benefits are and what documentation you’ll need from your course.

  2. Buy the course that’s right for you (ahem - Baby Steps with Nurse Nat perhaps?!) and request the documentation required by your insurer or health spending account.

  3. Get your refund by submitting your required paperwork. Your insurance plan or HSA/FSA may cover all of the cost or a portion of the cost.

Your insurer or HSA/FSA may require an itemized receipt or other documentation from your educator before reimbursing you for the cost; make sure you get all the paperwork necessary to get the most from your benefit provider.

Coverage varies by insurer, spending account administrator, and state - make sure you call the number on the back of your insurance or HSA/FSA card to find out if all or part of the course you’re taking is covered today!
